Turtle Lake Ice Report

We checked ice today and we have 7 1/2″ of great smooth ice. Things are looking good for the race next Saturday. We will not be driving on the ice. We will be parking on the access lot on highway 8. We will be checking ice again next week and will get a report. Confident we should be able to make the 8″ of ice we need by then with no snow cover. We will keep checking the conditions and keep everyone updated.

Update To Shawano Lake With WKCR

FIRST RACE: Dec. 31, 2016 SHAWANO LAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE – UPDATE – UPDATE: 8 to 10″ of good ice reported on Shawano Lake as several club members plowed the track to remove the snow. As of this time, the races are on, but no cars, trucks, and trailer allowed on the ice for obvious reasons. Please park at tight as possible in the lots and leave spots in front of bar open for other bar patrons. Thank you!

The first race will be at the Bamboo Bar (Formally Sunset Grill – Sparky’s) on Saturday, December 31, 2016!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

For those of you that have not heard, the club is going to have an open practice in Shawano the day before the first race (12/30).  This is so everyone can shake down their sleds and get the MANDATORY sled and driver safety checks done.  All drivers and sleds will get safety checks done prior to racing Saturday.  If the sled or driver does not have a inspection sticker, THEY WILL NOT RACE.  Whatever safety inspections are not done on Friday, will have to happen Saturday morning before  they can practice.  The clubs day of open practice will start at 10:00am on Friday, December 30, 2016.  Waiver signing and Teching will be done first.  Your machines will need to get over to the designated teching area.  We are checking SAFETY ITEMS only.  We will also be checking the driver’s equipment at the same time.  Both the sleds and drivers will be getting stickers to apply for passing the safety check.  The track will open for practice at 12:00 or earlier if all the safety checks are done and will end at 3:00.  Checks will include:

Sleds

  • Tether kill

  • Brakes

  • Loops

  • Tunnel protector

  • Working Tail light (stock or aftermarket for mod)

Driver

  • Helmet rating – Snell 2010 or better, ECE 22.05

  • Orange on back of jacket and helmet

  • Shin guards

  • Tekvest

  • Neck brace for MODS and 340s

Below is the letter from WKCR:

Hello Racers!!

It is finally here.  First race of the season.  The Bamboo Bar in Shawano.
Registration is now open.  Please register by Wednesday night.  There is a bit of prep-work that goes on before the race and it would be nice to have somewhat of a headcount.
Each racer will need to register as a new member.  This way you can create your own password.  There is a $13.00 fee per class.
Please do not forget to fill in your volunteer selections.  We need all the help we can get.
The ice is setting up nicely for our upcoming race.  The ice will be checked daily.  As of today, we are a go for the race.  Please note that there will be NO parking on the ice.  Please plan accordingly.  Please do not park in front of the building, as this needs to be kept open for business needs.
Any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you.

Family Registration Reminders

As a reminder we do need all registrations in as soon as possible for many reasons if you are planning to race this year. One of the biggest concerns is for accounting for trophies and plaques. We will be doing plaques in all mod classes this year, and if you have not pre registered for that class they will not be available for your participant at the first race. Please contact us if you have registered and will be adding a class, and if you have not registered please do so asap. You can call me Jon 612-242-5046 directly with any questions.

Its making Ice!!!! Hoping the first week we will be good to go!!! Ice report today from Turtle Lake is 2.5″ but a 4″ blanket of snow on top.
