As much as it hurts me to say it, the Spooner race has been cancelled.

The ice just is not forming at the rate we need it to. On Monday the 28th the ice depth was 2 1/2″, as of Sunday the 3rd it is at 4″. The weather does start to cooperate starting this Sunday with the temps finally hitting below zero at night and single digits for the day time highs.

Going forward the schedule is going to change significantly due to current ice conditions. Certain venue locations will be relocated to other venues. I’m still working on things as we speak and am awaiting return phone calls before any final decision will be made on race locations. Here is what the schedule is looking like:

Potential January Race Locations:

1/23 – White Bear Lake, MN  Turtle Lake, WI

1/30 – Center City, MN  Spooner, WI — 2 Day Race

Potential February Race Locations:

2/6 – Isanti, MN   Center City, MN or Luck, WI

It looks like ice condition are going to improve for the races in February. Any further race location will be announced when and if the need arises.

Due to unseasonably warm temperatures we are forced to cancel our season opener in Turtle Lake, WI.

As of Friday afternoon the lake was still open. Even though the temps are favorable this weekend, the forecast is still not the ice making forecast we need to make enough ice for us to safely hold a race with the days we have remaining.

For those looking to race there is a race being held in Ironwood Michigan, check out http://www.wksra.com for more information. Look on the other youth racing groups websites for other races, as I know they are fighting ice conditions as well.

Looking ahead at the month of January:

Spooner: Open water as of Saturday afternoon, possible cancellation

White Bear Lake: Possible cancellation due to lack of ice/Permit

Center City: Possible cancellation/reschedule by the Chamber of Commerce

Please check back often as we work hard to get these races sorted out. A lot of things are undetermined due to the weather and our January schedule may be adjusted as necessary. A venue change is possible for the Center City and the White Bear Lake race weekend as well as a make up race/races for the Turtle Lake and or Spooner race.

As it is no surprise to any of us, mother nature is not cooperating!!

Currently Turtle Lake has no Ice on it, and the weather forecast appears to be not in our favor in the near future.

We are looking ahead at the first two races and planning potential makeup races for these. Without knowing what will happen the potential makeup race location and dates for these races are unknown at this time, but they will be a Sunday race.

Hopefully we can race as scheduled, but we are planning for makeup races at this time. Depending upon future ice conditions, the amount of cancelled races to be made up is undetermined at this time.

Follow the link http://www.isrracing.org/account/registration.cfm to get your kids ISR #,  you will need to print the receipt as you will not get a hard card.
